Nearly always child custody presents a most serious and trying problem. The writer of this opinion, as a trial judge, found it to be so and he finds it substantially the same as an appellate judge. The parents, both of them in many instances, are in court because of...
Why and how to keep your lawyer in the loop at minimum cost and still get good advice
1. Lawyer Ethics impose total responsibility on the lawyer for your court case. Even if suit has not been filed, most lawyers will feel that same responsibility once you hire them. Thus, when you choose to stay in control of your case using the mediation process, many...

Reaching solutions through Counseled Mediation™
Many couples will find that working with the mediator will be all they need to reach a settlement and to have the mediator draw up the written settlement agreement. However, for more complex cases we recommend using Counseled Mediation™, our process for working together with lawyers, financial planners and mental health professionals to find divorce solutions. Counseled Mediation™ incorporates the benefits of the collaborative law process without requiring your lawyer, if you choose to hire one, to withdraw from the case if you don’t settle.

Virginia Mediation is the registered trade name of The Mediation Center, Inc., a Virginia Corporation, located at 1119 Caroline Street in historic downtown Fredericksburg, Virginia. The Mediation Center, Inc. was first formed as a Virginia Corporation in 1987. Since then we have offered mediation services to the Fredericksburg community as well as the Counties of Stafford, Prince William, Spotsylvania, Culpeper, King George, Caroline and Orange.
The Center uses only experienced, professional mediators who have the education and mediation training to keep your mediation focused on creative problem-solving. We have background knowledge and experience in the laws and common problems involving such diverse areas as divorce, child custody, employment (sexual harassment, EEO, ADA), corporations, construction, real estate, probate, personal injury, etc. Our goal is to maximize your chances of solving the problems that bring you to the mediation table. When the complexities require, our mediators are experienced and proficient at using and integrating experts (CPAs, CFPs, engineers, lawyers, etc.) seamlessly into the flow of the problem-solving process.
We also offer training and coaching in co-parenting, communication and the divorce process.
We usually schedule a session within 72 hours. Day or evening appointments are available. At our Fredericksburg offices we have facilities for several simultaneous mediation sessions, a large conference room for training sessions and large group mediation and facilitation, and ample off-street and on-street parking.
